La Ligue D'Égalité Returns

LaLiga, FUNDACIÓN LaLiga and Petrichor have partnered again for the second edition of La Ligue D’Égalité. After the success of our pilot league in February, this initiative has proven to be a powerful movement for positive social change. It has grown from 180 youth players and 20 female coaches educated to 600+ players and coaches impacted which represents over 200% growth within 6 months. We all knew that this was going to be special - and we are just getting started.

Pablo Malavé Muñoz from FUNDACIÓN LaLiga delivered the coaches sessions to 40+ women coaches from Cameroon. It included a weeks worth of quality material delivered via classroom sessions and on field practical sessions each day.

The media has helped grow our reach as it spreads around Africa and the world. We have been featured in ESPN, SoccerEx, GOAL.com, MARCA, AS and BBC to name a few. As this grows we hope the news reaches the right people who are interested in partnering to help take this to more kids around the world.

The league serves U13 and U15 age groups and will run until early summer 2023. This gives the kids a chance to play in a consistent and organized structure. We have also added some programs to this league which adds depth and creates more impact.

1- Mini Stars

As a way to encourage even younger girls to enter the game we are running community camps before a match day in each community that our teams come from. This will be a fun camp for 12 and under girls to get introduced to the sport of football but also have fun, get a snack and hopefully stick around to watch their older sisters and friends play in the league. Part of this project is to teach basics of player pathways starting at the bottom but also a way to show the young girls a role model. If they see it and are exposed to older girls and women in sport then they have something to reach for.

2- Goals for Girls

Lola Ogunbote (Executive Director of Goals for Girls) was in Cameroon with us running training sessions for our community leaders. These leaders will deliver a season long curriculum on leadership, confidence building and character development specifically designed for our girl athletes.

What’s next?

Added Value

Next steps are in the works to grow the league in ways that provide more quality and value to the girls playing. This might involve vocational training, education benefits, sports career tracks and more.

Consulting

We have been getting more requests for partnerships, scale and growth. Petrichor is developing a consulting service that will be available to anyone working in this space that is interested in partnering in this way.
